Art

Art is a great way to de-stress. Let your creativity flow and fill the page. Oftentimes, it is hard to find a place to start.

One thing you can try is to make seemingly RANDOM LINES AND CURVES. Take a step back and look at your paper. Try to figure out something that you can make from those lines, and draw it on your paper.

If you have some friends, a nice thing to do is to MAKE A MONSTER together. Pass each person a paper and have them fold it into three sections. Each person draws the legs on the bottom section without showing it to the other people. Have each person draw small marks that connect it to the middle section, then pass the papers clockwise. The next person draws the torso without looking at the legs and adds marks to the top section. Pass the paper clockwise once more so the final person can draw the head without looking at the other parts. Once everyone is done, show one another the beautiful creations. If you want to, come up with some silly names as well.

Music

Listening to music can be a good way to calm down when you feel stressed. Sometimes it can be helpful to just listen to some calming music without any lyrics in the background while you are doing something else. Sometimes it can also be helpful to find music with lyrics that you relate to. Singing can also help, it's a good way to be able to say your feelings. Or just sing cause it's fun.

Encanto, a Disney movie from November 2021, has many relatable songs about stress and trying to live up to high expectations. I want you to listen to these songs and see that these problems are so important in society.

Reading and Writing

Reading and writing is a good way to get your emotions out. You can write how you're feeling whether it's in a diary entry or a book you're writing. Getting words on paper can be helpful to figure out how you're feeling. It can be a good way to communicate with people if you don't feel comfortable talking with them. Reading can also be a good escape from stress, maybe you'll read a book that has people you can relate to in it. Maybe you just like to read. No matter what kind of thing you like to read or write it can always be of help to you.

Sports and Exercise

Sometimes, the best thing to do to make you feel better is to go outside and enjoy the fresh air and sunshine. There are many ways to exercise, and in my opinion, sports is one of the best forms of exercise and one of the best outdoor de-stressers. If you have a group ofpeople to play with, try one of these sports:

If you don't have the people for those try an individual sport of exercise: Okay, so that list was actually longer than expected.
Most likely, the majority of the sports are listed aren't things you could easily do in your backyard right now. But still, if any of them interest you, I recommend trying it sometime and maybe getting lessons. A new activity can be really fun and a change of pace from whatever is bothering you.

Time Management

Time management is...well...elusive. We are all living in an increasingly hectic and distracting world. Procrastination can feel like a safe alternative to the stress of responsibilities. But procrastination and poor time management can make us feel more hurried and less in control.

What is something that may help? Making a list of your tasks, and then deciding which are more time-sensitive and important and focusing on those is a good method. Try to block out distractions. Set a time limit for each task to help focus, and avoid working without taking breaks. Remember to take breaks!
