Our Group

At the Bill Memorial Library in Groton, CT, we have a group of girls who love to code. The technology field is heavily male-dominated, and it is the goal of Girls Who Code to close the gender gap and make technology a more inclusive career.

This is the fifth year the library has had a Girls Who Code club. I encourage you to take a look at our past websites:

  • Charlotte

Hello, my name is Charlotte and this is my fifth year in GWC. I am in my junior year of high school, so between classes, extracurriculars, and the beginning of my college search, there is a lot of stress I have to deal with. One way I deal with stress is taking deep breaths when I need to calm down. I also like to keep an organized list of everything I need to do so I know how much time I should be spending on each thing.

    Maria

My name is Maria and this is my first year in Girls Who Code. I am in my sophomore year of high school, and with school, extracurricular activities, and *trying* to keep a balanced sleep schedule, stress is very much a problem One way I deal with stress is doing stuff I love, like practicing for my school musical and playing videogames. I also like to talk about random things because it helps me to talk about things that pop into my head. Does that make me crazy? Maybe. But it also makes me calmer.

    Emily

My name is Emily and this is my fifth year in GWC. I am in my Freshman year of high school and have been doing this since 5th grade. I deal with anxiety and adhd so I have a lot of struggles especially with covid When the situation becomes to stressful I usually like to find a quiet small place and read or write. I also sing when I need to get my emotions out. My favorite animal is a wolf because they look so majestic and beautiful.

    Zoe E-G

Hi my name is Zoe and this is my third year doing girls who code. I am a freshman and also an athlete so I got to deal with a lot of stress and pressure. Some ways I like to deal with stress is running, cooking and hanging out with friends.

    Catherine

Hi! This is my first year as head facilitator for Girls Who Code, and I'm lucky to be working with the Director of the library, Wendy, as our Decision Maker. The GWC group is very creative and supportive, not to mention clever! To relieve stress, I like to garden, go for hikes in the woods with my dog, and read (of course!). We hope that you find our GWC site informative and entertaining!
